DATES: Monday, July 20–Friday, July 24, 2020
LOCATION: ONLINE through Stephen F. Austin State University
COST: $175 (Full online camp)
ELIGIBILITY: Junior High and High School Pianists

Due to the closure of all in-person instruction at Stephen F. Austin State University for summer 2020, the SFA Piano in the Pines Camp has been reconfigured for online instruction.

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. online (includes practice time, individual lessons, masterclasses, and special topics seminars), private lessons may need to be scheduled in afternoon depending on enrollment and availability.

This online program will provide junior high and high school pianists with the opportunity to study with our piano faculty. Students receive daily private online lessons with faculty, participate in virtual duets and ensembles with other student pianists, attend online classes covering a variety of relevant topics for young pianists, and perform in the SFA Piano in the Pines Virtual Recital at the end of the week.

Each attendee meets online at 9:00 a.m. for an online group class with rotating topics and teachers. Individual and group lessons will be scheduled throughout the week between 9:30–11 a.m. (with scheduling in the afternoon if necessary), with group masterclasses occurring daily at 11 a.m.

Participation will require:

  • High-speed internet access
  • Computer, tablet, or smartphone with video recording and Zoom video conferencing capabilities.

For more information, email the camp director, Mario Ajero, at or call 936.468.1389.

Registration and Repertoire

Pianists should fill out the online registration below. All registrations should include links to at least one online video recording of the student performing a solo repertoire pieces (i.e. YouTube, Vimeo, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.). Videos should be recorded using the devices that the students intend on using for the online camp. The recordings do not have to be formal performances but should be played either on an acoustic piano or digital piano with weighted key action. The purpose of the videos is to assess the capabilities of the computers and mobile devices so that the organizers of the camp can determine if this online camp would be ideal for the student or not. For any student who we recommend not to attend this camp, a full refund will be granted before the camp begins. Faculty will help pianists improve their pieces that they bring to the camp and prepare them for a virtual recital at the end of the week.
