Audition Schedule and Music

In an effort to maintain safe practices during the Covid-19 pandemic, there will be some changes to how SFA Symphony Orchestra auditions will be help for the 2020-2021 season.

  • Strings:

Auditions for all new and returning string students will be held on Sunday, August 22 and Sunday, August 23 in the Recital Hall. If you wish to audition for the SFA Symphony Orchestra, please following the following steps:

    1. All students must first register for an audition by clicking here (or by going directly to https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A044FA4AC2FA2FF2-fall1)
      • Select one of the "Sign Up" boxes that corresponds with your instrument.
      • Follow the directions and complete the necessary information to complete the sign-up process.
    2. Masks are required during the entire audition process.

  • Winds:

The SFA Symphony Orchestra will only prepare repertoire that is either chamber or string only for the Fall 2020 semester. Unfortunately, trombones and tuba will not be used in the Fall 2020 semester. If conditions improve for the Spring 2021, separate auditions will be held as needed.

Wind auditions will be held electronically using FlipGrid. You can either record directly to this platform or submit a prerecorded video to this platform. A couple things:

    • You must record your entire audition into one single video (you will not be able to submit separate recordings for each excerpt)
    • You are welcome to rerecord as many times as you like.
    • Submissions are due no later than 11:59 pm, Saturday, August 22.

Follow the simple directions below to submit your audition video:

    1. To begin, choose the appropriate section excerpt (click the hyperlink).
    2. Click the green icon to take you to the recording/uploading platform.
    3. You will then log in using your SFA email
    4. Using the Adobe Flash Player plugin, either record or upload your audition video.
      • You may make as many attempts as you would like before your final submission.
    5. Follow the directions to complete the video submission.
  • Audition Materials:

Download your specific audition excerpt (click the hyperlink). An additional solo piece is not required.

*Percussionists will be assigned by Dr. Meyer.

SFA Symphony Orchestra rehearsals are held on Mondays 7:15-9:30 pm and Tuesdays and Thursday 2:00-3:15 pm. The full orchestra will rehearse on Monday August 24. Orchestra seating and rehearsal times will be posted on the morning of Monday August 24 outside my office. Students are expected to pick up their assigned music from the string room from one of the orchestra managers that day.
