Orchestra: Auditions for the
SFA Symphony Orchestra (Fall 2022 – Spring 2023)

Audition Schedule and Music

SFA Symphony Orchestra auditions will be held on Sunday, August 21 (strings only) and Monday, August 22, 2022 (all other instruments. Percussionists will be assigned by Dr. Meyer) in the Small Recital Hall.

  1. Download your specific audition excerpt (also available under the "Auditions for Orchestra" tab on the SFA School of Music website). An additional solo piece is not required.

  2. A link to the sign up can be found on the SFASO Facebook page or by contacting Dr. Grabowski at Gregory.Grabowski@sfasu.edu. Select one of the "Sign Up" boxes that corresponds with your instrument. Follow the directions and complete the necessary information to complete the sign up process.

  3. On the day of the audition, arrive early in order to prepare the necessary paperwork.

SFA Symphony Orchestra rehearsals are held on Mondays 7:15-9:30 pm and Tuesdays and Thursday 2:00-3:15 pm. Strings will rehearse on Monday August 22. The full orchestra will have its first rehearsal on Tuesday August 23. Orchestra seating and rehearsal times will be posted on the morning of Monday August 23 outside my office and the orchestra library. Students are expected to pick up their assigned music from the orchestra library on Monday August 22.

Required Dress

Required dress for concerts: men—black tux with white shirt/black bow tie; women—long black dress (preferred), skirt or nice slacks (not jeans or casual cotton pants). With skirt or slacks, a black blouse or top that fully overlaps or tucks in the skirt/slacks.
