Tim King is Director of Choral Activities and Professor of Music at Stephen F. Austin State University. He conducts the A Cappella Choir and Madrigal Singers, and supervises the undergraduate and graduate choral programs. In addition, he teaches courses in Choral Conducting, Choral Techniques, and Choral Literature.

In 1983, following a successful teaching career in the Texas Public School System, Dr. King came to SFA. During the next six years, his choirs were invited to sing for the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), the Music Educator National Conference (MENC), the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), and was featured with the Manhattan Philharmonic in a New York production of Verdi’s Requiem in Avery Fisher Hall.

In 1989 Dr. King assumed the position as Director of Choral Activities at the University of Idaho. During his Idaho tenure, Dr. King served the state as Chair of the committee that formulated a Prescribed Music List, and was elected President of ICDA. Nationally, he served ACDA as the Northwest Chair of the University/College Repertoire and Standards Committee. Dr. King also served as a panelist for the National Endowment of the Arts.

After five years at the University of Idaho, Dr. King once again returned to SFA (1994) where he continues his tenure as Director of Choral Activities. Since his return, well-received concert appearances at the Texas Music Educators Association Clinic/Convention has firmly established SFA’s choral reputation within the state, region, and country. This past May the A Cappella Choir toured Europe singing in Vienna’s 1,000 year city celebration and representing the U.S. and Texas in the International Choir Festival at Marostica, Italy.

Dr. King received a Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music from Texas Tech University and a D.M.A from the University of Illinois. Dr. King is in demand as clinician, adjudicator, and consultant.
